Ancient Roman Chalcedony Ring
Ancient Roman Chalcedony Ring
Fashioned from lustrous high karat gold, this incredibly rare Roman ring dates back to the 1st–2nd century AD. With a silhouette echoed in contemporary signet rings, this tapering band seamlessly flows into a translucent chalcedony, as if entirely one piece. Highly prized for its rarity, all known deposits of this deep green mottled stone, also known as 'plasma', were exhausted toward the end of the 2nd century AD. A detailed handcarved intaglio parrot graces its front, a symbol of status and luxury in Rome. Ancient, yet astonishingly modern, this is a spectacular once-in-a-lifetime piece.
